Alerts

Alerts is your organization’s alert queue. Alerts are raised automatically when something recorded for a patient needs attention, for example a laboratory result outside its expected range or an imaging study a radiologist flagged as a critical finding. Nobody creates them by hand.

Alerts are raised by alert scripts: rules that run whenever a relevant record is saved for a patient. Which rules run depends on your organization:

  • rules your organization has set up for its own patients, and
  • shared rules your organization has chosen to use.

Patients can also turn on shared rules for themselves from their app. Alerts from those appear in your queue only if your organization uses the same rule and the patient has fully accepted your organization.

A record your organization saves is checked only against your own rules and the shared rules your organization uses, so another organization’s rules never raise alerts in your queue.

Each row shows its Priority (High, Medium, Low or Info), the Patient, the alert’s title, its Date & Time (when the rule evaluated the record), whether the patient has seen it (Seen by Patient), and how many people in your organization have acknowledged it (Acknowledged). An alert counts as seen by the patient once the patient’s app marks it as read; that cannot be undone.

The newest alerts come first. The list refreshes itself every 30 seconds; the refresh button next to the filters reloads it at once.

Filter by priority, by Seen by Patient, or by Acknowledged (yes or no). Acknowledged only counts your own organization’s acknowledgements; other organizations caring for the same patient keep their own.

Open an alert (the eye icon) to see its details: the description, the reasons the rule gave, the values that triggered it, and each acknowledgement from your organization with when it was made and its comment. The person who acknowledged is currently shown by their user ID, not their name.

Choose Mark as Seen to record that you have seen the alert, with an optional comment for your colleagues. The time and your time zone are recorded automatically. Each person acknowledges an alert once: marking it again keeps your first acknowledgement and its comment. Your acknowledgement is visible only within your organization, and never to the patient.

Mark as Seen only appears if your role allows acknowledging alerts.

  • Dashboard: the Recent alerts panel lists the same queue with the dashboard’s date range and its priority, seen and tag filters. The date range covers alerts raised from the start of the first day to the end of the last, counted in UTC. Patients appear by a short ID; the link icon on a row opens the patient.
  • During a visit: the patient’s Alerts card, in the visit’s Monitoring section, lists that patient’s alerts, as Unresolved (nobody in your organization has acknowledged them yet), Resolved or All, and lets you mark them as seen. When the visit view is limited to this visit, only alerts raised from its records are listed. A notice appears when new alerts arrive.

Alerts are part of monitoring, which every plan includes. Your organization’s alerts run only for the patients it monitors. Seeing alerts and acknowledging them each need a role that allows it. You only see alerts for patients connected to your organization, and, if your account is restricted to certain patient tags, only for patients carrying those tags. If your role lets you see only the patients you follow, the queue holds only their alerts. A patient who has asked you to follow them counts only once the request is accepted.
